Core Teaching Staff: Suzanne Down (Child Development and Domestic/Nurturing Arts, Puppetry/Speech Development), Cynthia Aldinger  (Child Development and Domestic/Nurturing Arts), Glenda Monasch (Eurythmy), Mindy Upton and others (Handwork), Carma Feigal (Singing and Lyre), Faith Collins (Tools of the Trade, Child Care, Toddler, and Parent-Child Program Development),  Barbara Cavanagh, RN (care of the child who is ill, and self-care), Lynn St. Pierre, Ellersiek hand-gesture games, and other guest teachers.

The training is held in Boulder, Colorado, a scenic university town with many cultural and outdoor activities.  Located at the base of the Flat Irons, 5430 feet above sea level, Boulder is known for its blue skies and sunny weather, even in the midst of winter snow.  It is surrounded by open space and hiking trails and is 45 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park and Eldora ski area.

The LifeWays training is held in a church located just one block from the famous “Pearl Street Mall,” a pedestrian area forming the vibrant heart of downtown with numerous restaurants, art galleries, boutiques and street entertainment (musicians, jugglers, magicians—even a contortion artist). While nutritious lunches are provided each day at the training, it is easy for students either to walk in nature or enjoy a coffee and people watch on their lunch breaks.

In addition to enjoying the playscapes and other children’s activities on the outdoor mall, families who accompany students will find plenty of parks to visit, including Chautauqua Park, including the oldest Chautauqua auditorium west of the Mississippi that is still a venue for concerts in the summer. An excellent children’s museum is located in nearby Longmont.

Boulder has had Waldorf schools for more than 25 years, and there are now more than half a dozen Waldorf schools and LifeWays home programs in the area, as well as a school for eurythmy training.  Faculty for the LifeWays training draws from master teachers in the area, including the Training Director, Suzanne Down, founder of Juniper Tree Puppets. Students should also make sure to visit the wonderful wool and yarn shop, Spindles, Shuttles and Skeins, and a Waldorf-style toy store, Ginger and Pickles.  It’s a resource-full town in which to have the training!
