The Children of Our Times: Attention, Anxiety and Connection
An Anthroposophic Perspective with Laurie Schmiesing, RN
Wednesdays, April 29 & May 6 6:30- 8 pm Central
What do our children need in our times? This is an important question for all adults to
consider. Anthroposophy gives us a deep understanding into human development.
Over the course of two 1.5 hour sessions, we will review the understanding of the child
through anthroposophy in the 7 year life cycles and the 4 lower senses: touch, life,
movement and balance.
We will then explore insights through anthroposophy of issues related to attention,
anxiety and connection in today’s children. We will seek to gain a more expanded
understanding of the challenges children are confronted with in our times. We will then
discuss home care through Anthroposophic nursing that may be supportive to these
Children.
In addition, ways to care for ourselves as adults supporting young ones will be
discussed and presented.
Topics will include:
Understanding the child through the lens of the four-fold human being: physical, etheric, astral and I utilizing the first 3 seven-year life cycles.
The lower senses and the child – touch, life, movement, balance
The understanding of the three-fold aspects of nerve-sense, rhythmic and metabolic limb system in seeing the young child’s inner/outer connections
Understanding anxiety and activity through understanding the developing child.
Support for adults caring for young children – how can we care for ourselves as we care for our children?
Supportive home care measures for the young child including touch, nutritional baths, foot baths, rhythm and warmth.
Current environmental issues/impacts – thoughts for homelife.
Each session will contain content on the understanding of the human being through the
wisdom of anthroposophy, understanding challenging behaviors related to anxiety and
activity in childhood and discussion time to learn from one another.
