Workshop at a Glance
Working together with peers and mentors with the same values and goals helps us refine and maintain our ethos. We dive more deeply into the work, access a more robust library of knowledge and experience, and help each other apply theories of development and practice to our personal context.
In each class we will cover a different topic within the Living Arts presented by a LifeWays Pedagogue followed by a time for “workshopping” your plans, projects and questions. Details for each class can be found below.

This series takes place live on Zoom.
In order to cultivate a lively and dynamic participatory experience, we will not be recording these sessions. We also warmly insist that your video be turned on during our live sessions. Please do your best to make arrangements so this is possible.

Renewing Our Days with the Living Arts

What are the problems you run into while trying to incorporate real-life activities, the Living Arts, into your time with children?
While planning your rhythms and processes, what are the common issues that come up?
Do you end up with too much to do?
Is there something missing with the execution that causes things to get chaotic?
In this workshop we will review common “bumps in the road” of planning and carrying out our rhythms, and the processes that become a mantle of protection for our children when we work with them consciously. Bring your plans, questions, or problems and come away with ideas and solutions for the next season or school year!

In the Moment with the Children of Our Times with Laurie Schmiesing

Join Laurie Schmiesing for a follow-up conversation to her spring workshop, “The Children of Our Times: Attention, Anxiety, and Connection.”

Continuing the exploration for insight and understanding of the challenges children are confronted with today, we will review the anthroposophic perspective on these issues and spend time discussing the support the children in your home or program need.
Topics covered in the Spring that may be explored again through your personal questions:

Understanding the child through the lens of the four-fold human being, the lower senses, or the three-fold aspects of the body systems.

Understanding anxiety and activity through understanding the developing child.

Support for adults caring for young children.

Supportive home care measures for the young child including touch, nutritional baths, foot baths, rhythm and warmth.

Nurturing Relationships & Guiding Older Children with Jane McCoy
Monday, October 26, from 5:30 - 7:30pm Central​​
At the heart of the LifeWays philosophy is a focus on Relationship-based care.
One of the most meaningful expressions of this is the multi-age grouping model (infant - 6yrs), which allows children to remain with the same caregiver for extended periods — often several years.
This continuity is a true gift for children and caregivers alike, nurturing deep, lasting bonds that support healthy development.
Of course, caring for a wide range of ages comes with its own unique set of challenges:
-How do we meet each child’s developmental needs while honoring the rhythm of the whole group?
-What materials and stories work across such a wide age range?
- What does a multi-age daily rhythm really look like?
Join as we explore how LifeWays principles and practices rise to meet children at every age and stage — with a special focus on practical strategies for supporting older children within a multi-age setting.

The families of the children in our care are our most important partners. Having a strong and healthy relationship with them allows for the children to grow up in a world of Goodness, Love, and Freedom. When considering how to develop strong relationships with families, we examine what it means to provide relationship-based care for everyone in our community. Here we can take cue from Rudolf Steiner’s Motto of the Social Ethic: “The healthy social life is found when, in the mirror of each human soul, the whole community finds its reflection, and when, in the community, the strength of each one is living.”
How do we cultivate interest and respect within both the individual and the whole? How do we work together in reciprocity for the good of the children we are caring for? How do we navigate the tensions that naturally exist when individuals come together seeking the same goal but with different roles, approaches and points of view?
